To hear The Orchard talk about their musical influences, including Reba, Pearl Jam, The Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert and a host of classic and southern rock bands, one realizes how they blended those influences together to create their own unique, refreshing and honest sound.

Kasha Anne and Mitch Smith comprise this new duo that has already started winning accolades. These ambassadors of Global Country were named Entertainer of the Year, Duo and Vocalist of the Year as well as having the Song of the Year at the 2011 North American Country Music Associations International (NACMAI) awards show in Pigeon Forge Tennessee. Kasha has also taken home the 2010 Global Country Star Search top prize while Mitch has been earning recognition as a songwriter and guitar player.

While the duo are both immersed in music on a daily basis as songwriters, Mitch is becoming a sought after guitar teacher while Kasha teaches a family friendly program called “Music Together”.

The Orchard trained at Berklee College of Music, are not your typical duo as Kasha is the main vocalist while Mitch’s voice comes mainly in the form of lyrics and lyrical ideas. A duo who believe the music is just as important as the lyric in helping paint a picture.

Playing for the Association of Country Music in Alberta (ACMA) at the Calgary Stampede Hall of Fame and Red Deer’s Westerner Days brought the duo to the attention of Royalty Records where they showcased and performed during the label’s 2011 Canadian Country Music Awards (CCMA) events before signing with them in the fall.

Nominated for the ACMA Duo/Group of the Year award and releasing their first single “Stick to Your Guns”, The Orchard is looking forward to bringing in 2012 with a bang!
