“COWBOYS WERE KINGS” THE NEW SINGLE FROM BLAKE REID

ROYALTY RECORDS & SONY MUSIC CANADA PRESENT

BR_CowboysKings_cvrFINiTunes

Blake Reid draws from his deep-seated farm roots to tell his story through music. Coming from a five-generation farm family, Reid has the ability to create diverse tracks while maintaining his innate, homegrown country style.

Consistent with the theme of the entire RUST album, “Cowboys Were Kings” is a look back to when life was simpler.

Co-written with Buddy Owens and Phil O’Donnell, “We wanted to capture the integrity of the Cowboy and those qualities of hard work and good love, and translate them in today’s life.” explains Blake Reid.

This connection to the rural lifestyle helped spur 4-H to partner with Blake for their centennial celebration. The former 4-H’er will be creating the centennial theme song that captures the spirit of 4-H.

Highlighting touchstone themes and pulling inspiration from stories told by 4-H members and alumni. Stay tuned for updates on the song and special performances by Blake throughout the anniversary year.”

As a native of Cremona, AB., Reid uses his rural roots as the driving inspiration for his song writing and is passionate about producing authentic country music and Rust reflects this. With his latest album, Rust, released on Royalty Records/Sony Music Canada, Blake Reid firmly establishes himself as a true workingman’s poet.

Produced by Phil O’Donnell in Nashville and featuring many of the city’s top session players, the album’s 3rd single, “Cowboys Were Kings” showcases Reid’s storytelling gifts. In celebrating the future, while honouring the past, Rust is undeniably Blake Reid’s finest work to date.

STAY HOME THE NEW SINGLE FROM BLAKE REID

ROYALTY RECORDS & SONY  MUSIC CANADA

PRESENT…

BReid_StayHome_CVRfinaliTunes

“STAY HOME” is Blake’s single being released in conjunction with and in support of his Album “RUST” which was released October 30th 2015.”RUST” peaked at #17 on the Canadian country iTunes chart on it’s release day last Friday.

No other art form puts more stock in authenticity than country music, and there’s never been any question about that with Blake Reid. Just get the native of Cremona, Alberta talking about his upbringing and you’ll hear more than enough proof. In fact, there’s a story that in many ways best sums up Reid’s latest album, Rust, released October 30th 2015. It goes something like this: One of his most cherished possessions is his grandfather’s ’72 Chevy pickup, which he’s managed to keep running like a top. One day, Reid’s young son asked why he’s never repainted the worn-down spot on the window edge of the driver’s side door. Reid’s response? That’s the place where his grandfather’s elbow always rested and covering it up would erase part of his story.Rust is brimming with similar tales, showcasing Reid’s status as a true workingman’s poet.

All of those elements add up to the vision Reid had for Rust from the beginning, celebrating the future while honouring the past. It was a concept that Reid’s producer Phil O’Donnell—one of Nashville’s many transplanted Canadians, whose songs have been recorded by the likes of George Strait, Blake Shelton and Brad Paisley—latched onto immediately. “Phil just has the right feel for current sounds, and also a deep understanding of everything that’s necessary to make great records,” Reid says. “All the players on the album were hand-picked CMA award winners, and being able to work with them at Legends Studio in Nashville, where Willie and Waylon and so many of my other heroes made records, was really a dream come true.”

CANADIAN COUNTRY SINGER BLAKE REID RELEASES SOPHOMORE ALBUM RUST

Toronto, ON – Canadian country artist Blake Reid will release his sophomore album, Rust (Royalty Records/Sony Music Canada), October 30, 2015. Reid draws from his deep-seated farm roots to tell his story through music. The album includes the lead single “Sounds Like a Song” and sees Reid collaborate with Nashville producer, Phil O’Donnell (Brett Kissel, High Valley, Blake Shelton). The result is a collection of songs which capture an authentic country sound.

Set to be released November 2, 2015, Reid’s forthcoming single “Stay Home” is the epitome of country twang, from his rich rustic voice to the plucked strings of his guitar. In contrast, “Sounds Like a Song”, is an up-tempo track with all the makings of an instant radio hit. It’s the type of hard-edged track that makes you want to kick on some cowboy boots and hit the rodeo. Coming from a five-generation farm family, Reid has the ability to create diverse tracks while maintaining his innate, homegrown country style.

“I’m really excited to send Rust out – it was such a cool project right from the start.  I feel that we live in a disposable world right now and it was important for me to write about the ‘colour of life’ that’s sometimes overlooked as we strive for the next ‘new’,” says Reid. “Bringing that concept to Philbilly (Phil O’Donnell) and recording Rust at Legends, Nashville was a natural fit. I’ve been coast to coast this past year and met so many great folks – I’m really looking forward to continue to reach out to the hard working people and country music fans with this album.”

Rust was recorded at Legend Studios in Nashville, where country music legends Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson made some of their classic records and Reid co-wrote with award winning country singer / songwriter, Buddy Owens (Blake Shelton, Sunny Sweeney, Gord Bamford) on the album.

As a native of Cremona, AB., Reid uses his rural roots as the driving inspiration for his song writing. He was selected by a jury of music industry executives and journalists from amongst 160 competing artists for a place as a finalist in the 2013 CCMA Discovery Program. He was also selected as one of six emerging artists to play during 2013 Canadian Country Music Week. Reid is passionate about producing authentic country music and Rust reflects this.

Music has always been a way to escape the doldrums of everyday  – especially for folks spending the bulk of their day on the road, in the field, or at work.  Radio has been that escape for me for my entire life – visualizing within the song.  In writing ‘Sounds like a song’ we wanted to take the listener on that ‘cut and run’ journey.  Close your eyes for 3 minutes and get lost in that escape…….but make sure you’re not driving or running heavy equipment! – Blake Reid

ROYALTY RECORDS SIGNS BLAKE REID!

imgmystory

Royalty Records hand picked Blake Reid to add to the label’s roster of new artists to be released this year.

Blake was one of the first 6 artists chosen to participate in the CCMA discovery program in 2013, where he quickly earned his reputation as a quality songwriter, inspired by his deep country roots.

“Everyone at Royalty is excited to have Blake join our family. We’ve been following Blake since last year and saw him perform and the CCMA’s in Edmonton. Blake is deeply embedded in country music and the agricultural community, which clearly inspires his song writing and singing by telling real life stories.” – Rob Smith

Blake Reid comes from a five-generation farm family who staked their claim in 1902, broke the land and made a life in Alberta. Blake grew up with country music, with his mom singing along with all the radio legends that echoed in the old farmhouse and Dad would tune into the daily grain prices. Blake spent thousands of hours listening to the evolution of country music through the AM radios of tractors, trucks, and combines.

Blake’s music is about my life and home. He finds himself drawn to the intimacy of farm life, found down every gravel road outside the city limits. Whether the dirt field beside your road is red, brown, or sandy, Blake believes we all turn our ear toward something real and genuine.

“I’m super excited to be partnering with Royalty Records going forward in 2014 and to begin work on my next record. I’m not going to give out too much info yet, but I will say this record is setting up to be really cool and fresh. Joining the Royalty family and working with Nashville Producer/writer Phil O’Donnell is definitely a big step toward success for my career.” – Blake Reid

Blake Reid hits the studio next month to work with Phil O’Donnell in Nashville and will have new music coming later this year!
