THE ORCHARD TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE “WHATEVER GETS YOU HIGH” APRIL 24

Edmonton country-rockers return with first new music
since 2017 album The Great Unknown

LISTEN TO “WHATEVER GETS YOU HIGH” HERE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 14, 2020

TORONTO ON — Edmonton’s Kasha Anne, Mitch Smith and Andreas Wegener recently celebrated their 10-year anniversary as The Orchard. Over that time they have performed from Victoria to Toronto, while earning 18 ACMA Award nominations, as well as multiple Edmonton Music Award nominations along the way.

To mark the milestone, they are releasing a new single,  “Whatever Gets You High,” a groove-driven blend of sweet and salty indie rock and country pop, produced by multiple CCMA award winning producer, Bart McKay.

McKay says, “It’s great to be working with The Orchard again. Mitch and Kasha are constantly pushing their musical boundaries and have a style that fits somewhere between Lee Ann Womack and the Tedeschi Trucks Band. The new material we are working on is fresh but vintage and may be some of their best work yet.”

The Orchard has been featured in several national media outlets,  and included on Spotify editorial playlists in addition to campus and Canadian country radio airplay.

“Whatever Gets You High” offers a positive message to enjoy yourself in whatever form that takes, free from judgment. Its catchiness and sense of fun are two things The Orchard is keen to express through their music at this moment in time, and hopes everyone will follow the song’s advice.

THE ORCHARD PICKS UP A 2017 ACMA NOMINATION FOR ALBUM OF THE YEAR

Announced – December 7th, 2017 (Edmonton, AB) – The Association of Country Music in Alberta (ACMA)™ is pleased to present the Top 5 nominees in each awards category for the upcoming 2017 Alberta Country Music Awards™. Amongst those 2017 Nominees, included The Orchard, for Album of the Year, for their release of The Great Unknown, produced by grammy award winning Producer Jim Scott and recorded at Calgary’s own OCL Studios.

Kasha Anne and Mitch Smith, the singer/songwriter duo better known as The Orchard, couldn’t have picked a better title for their brand new album than The Great Unknown. After making an indelible impression on Canada’s country music scene with their first two records, the Alberta natives instinctively knew heading into their third release that change was imminent.

“Rolling out of the Canadian Rockies and across the prairie Province of Alberta, The Orchard finds its sound in Canadiana. Great tunes, great guitars and great Vocals. This is a real deal, no B.S. band playing real music.”  Jim Scott (multi grammy award winning producer/mixer)

Led by the anthemic first single “Sometimes I Wonder”, The Great Unknown is a cosmic blend of rock, country and pop. It’s a vision the pair had from the beginning of completely ignoring genre definitions and just doing what came naturally. Still, they needed a trusted hand to guide them in the studio, and there was no one better to ask than producer Jim Scott (Tedeschi Trucks Band, Marcus King Band).

All other winners will be announced Sunday January 28, 2018 during the 2017 Alberta Country Music Awards™.

Acclaimed Country/Pop Duo The Orchard Issue Song of the Summer with “Bright Eyes”

The sparkling track is the second single from Kasha Anne and Mitch Smith’s most recent album, The Great Unknown, and kicks off a busy season of live dates…

For Immediate Release: Toronto, June 5th, 2017 – An early contender for summertime anthem of 2017, “Bright Eyes” – the sunny and outrageously catchy second single from country crossover duo The Orchard’s acclaimed third album The Great Unknowndrops June 5 via Royalty Records.

Make space on your seasonal playlist. While The Orchard – a.k.a. singing/songwriting duo Kasha Anne and Mitch Smith – are well known for crafting brilliantly accessible, lyrically driven songs best described as “a cosmic blend of rock, country and pop” – the sheer lustre and lyrical heft of “Bright Eyes” is terrifically new.The song “encourages you to live in the moment and be more optimistic,” vocalist Kasha Anne offers, “which is something we all need from time to time.”

Adds Smith, “’Bright Eyes’ showcases a rocking groove by our killer band with lots of fun guitar parts. It’s probably one of our most energetic singles, and it always gets people on their feet!”

Indeed, the track was a favourite of The Great Unknown producer Jim Scott whose sprawling CV includes work with everyone from Wilco to Tedeschi Trucks Band, Tom Petty to the Foo Fighters. Scott knows a bona fide smash when he hears one.

“Jim Scott loved it so much that we had to find a home for it on the album,” Smith confirms. “Plus, it shows yet another side of Kasha’s voice. The lyrics touch on the strength and courage it takes to go it alone, and to hold out for a better tomorrow. Appropriate timing for this song in so many ways…”

“Bright Eyes” follows first single “Sometimes I Wonder,” which heralded The Great Unknown’s arrival to universal praise this spring. Now, as the affable Alberta duo prepares for a hectic summer of touring (scroll down for a complete itinerary), the effervescent, guitar-goosed “Bright Eyes” is poised to soar on patios and poolside from coast to coast.Says Kasha Anne, “Between the instruments and vocals, there are enough catchy moments in this song that each time you listen you find something new!”

After making an indelible impression on Canada’s country music scene with their first two records, the Alberta natives instinctively knew heading into their third release that change was imminent.

But what would that change entail? New sounds? A new producer? A new approach to writing and recording? All of the above, as it turns out.

THE ORCHARD HEADED BACK IN STUDIO WITH PRODUCER JIM SCOTT!

13958003_1367515849928609_7751090896509171575_o

This October 2016, The Orchard will be heading to OCL studios in Calgary, to work with iconic producer, Jim Scott (Tedeschi Trucks, Johnny Cash, Wilco). Jim’s management was sent demos from this Edmonton based band and in no time emails were going back and forth setting dates to record The Orchard’s next collection of music. Jim expressed interest right away and has provided the band with glowing reviews.

Jim also expressed his vision and sound comparisons for The Orchard’s sound and song writing to early Crowded House meets 10 000 Maniacs meets The Grateful Dead, Sixpense None the Richer meets The Pretenders, Tedeschi Trucks Band meets Chris Robinson Brotherhood meets Lake Street Dive.” – Rob Smith

After corresponding with The Orchard, Jim said this about two of the band’s tunes:

Dream Inside A Dream – “The Orchard’s Hit”

Sometimes I Wonder – “For the critics, honest, real, feels like The Orchard” – Jim Scott

Royalty Records/Sony Music Canada recording artists, The Orchard are a band that are hard to forget.

The Orchard’s sophomore album “Georgia”, recorded with Juno nominated producer Russell Broom, was released in August of 2014. The band has released four radio singles from the album across Canada, getting airplay across the map. Singles include “She Don’t Play Fair”, “Angel Eyes”, “Gone Missin’” and “Georgia”.

The Orchard is continuously pulling from what seems to be a bottomless pit of sounds and inspirations, with the help of their talented band mates, Jason Koop (drums) and Andreas Wagner (bass). The deeply emotional, vocal like guitar work of Mitch Smith and spine tingling, powerful vocals of Kasha Anne have got people catching onto the infectious vibe of what makes up The Orchard.

The ACMA (Alberta Country Music Association) has recognized The Orchard by nominating them for several awards over the past few years, including Group of The Year, Rising Star, Fans’ Choice and nominations for Song of the Year.

 New album coming early 2017!
